Under Hitler, Munich was the 'Capital of the Nazi Movement'. From 1931, the Nazi Party made the city its administrative centre, and the 'Führer' had a private residence here up to 1945. The SS was founded in the Bavarian capital, and from here spread its reign of terror across the whole of the German Reich.
